Commercial Concept

My Idea for this commercial is going to be a man and women fighting over their messy home, when the Hand-E bot appears with a puff of smoke. I want the commercial to resemble this photo... although it will look slightly different considering I want to photoshop the characters.

Process: one background layer of a very messy room, then keeping the camera exactly where is was, take a second background photo of the exact same room... only its sparkling clean! As far as the actors/models for it, I will take snap shots of their actions on a plain background so that it will be easier to crop them out of their plain background and into the dirty (or clean) room!

Commercials

1. This first commercial I fell in love with the first time I saw in aired during the super bowl:
     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rsEnwKrsvc

  • I think this commercial was able to make such a lasting impression on me because I am such a big fan of comedy. They encompassed two things i would have never thought to have combined these two concepts (Doritos and a child protecting his mother). They are selling the Doritos chips to people ranging form their twenties to their fifties. The problem portrayed in the commercial is that there is a man who wanted was coming into this kids space (taking his mom out, and taking his chip) and the kid handles it. The main characters are the potential suitor, and the kid; who provide entertainment. This commercial is successful in the fact that it connects the attachment a little boy to his mother with the connection he has with his Doritos.

2.Contradiction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X21mJh6j9i4&feature=related

  • I absolutely love the creativity in these commercials, and I think they do a good job of creating an ad campaign that people pay attention to and remember (which is very hard to do). Although I am not sure that they give the best impression of the product. It doesn't make me see a delicious product I want to run out and buy... if anything it makes it a product I want to avoid, because of the panda who is going to force me to buy it if I see it. The visual style is live action, and the tone is funny (although it depicts a serious scene in a comedic way). They are selling cheese, and the target audience to the best of my knowledge would be teens and middle age folks.

3. World's most costly ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibYnJoYwCXI

  • I think this ad "hit the nail on the head" literally. It does a great job getting and keep the viewers attention, and highlights many great aspects of the product; as well as having a brilliant slogan to go along with it! It is a live action film, and the mode was... mechanical I suppose you could say. They are selling a vehicle (the honda accord), and their isn't a problem present... but rather the lack their of. It is a serious of events calculated precisely to create the perfect vehicle. At the end there is a narrators voice of screen, just to say the logo.

4. I don't even know what to say about this man:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk

  • This commercial is live action (although maybe he should have used a little auto-tune). The tone is trying to be serious, however the whole thing turned out to be quite comical! The narrator is a store associate who is singing to us about all the great offers that he can provide at his flea market. The target audience seems to be young adults (ones that have enough money/a purpose to be buying dinette sets and bedding). He was trying to be hip, and appeal to younger audience... but I think he failed miserably. Although this commercial may not have crash and burned even if it isn't that successful in communicating the product, because I know as a viewer I wan't to go check that flea market out, and try to figure out what the heck that man was thinking!

5. Considerations when making a commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqq051BU2MY

  • okay so this isn't just the commercial, its actually a short sit com which makes fun of people creating commercials, but it is one of my all time favorite youtube videos so I had to include it in this assignment. It show how off base commercials can get if not handled properly! It's live action, Us as viewers clearly see the tone as scary (because the grapist is coming), but the stupid ad executives see it as fun! They are selling grape soda... although that doesn't translate well in the commercial. Their target audience would appear to be kids, although this as a real ad might scare the children away from grape soda for life. I hope you enjoy the video the way I did :)

Commercial ideas

1. A simplified robot just telling the viewer about the services it offers
2. A typography project to the song "Mr. Roboto"
3. "The Jetsons" endorsement, having two characters who look like the Jetsons fighting, because the house isn't clean, then the Hand-E bot magically pops into the picture, and they live happily ever after.
4. fight arena with Hand-E versus all the traditional cleaning equipment (broom, vacuum, etc.)
5. a simple prototype that can sit on the side of the screen and make simple movements or gestures while all the features scroll next to it.

LetterHead

Here I tried to keep the letterhead too look very similar to the business card, without making them look the exact same.  So I used the faded out checkers I created, as well as using the same color scheme and fonts. However, I switched the size and placement of the checkers, because when I had the checkers in the top right, it made the whole drawing feel too heavy because the icon combined with the bright red box from the logo drew the eye straight to that spot. I also think alternating between red and black at the bottom helps the eye to move around the letterhead. The red also helps to highlight the information that I find most important: the website and the business number. I feel this letterhead (as well as my business card) successfully portray the clean, modern image that my company wants to portray.

Business Card

I wanted to keep this image simple but clean, so I stuck with my basic black, white, and red color scheme. Also, all of the fonts that were used came directly form the logo, so the front coordinates with the back. I think the final product portrays the company quite well (high-tech and sterile, after all, we are selling robots that clean!)

Corporate Identity Questionnaire

1) What is your business?
We provide costumers with robots who are programmed to do various house chores; in addition to selling individual addition programs to download into the robots.
2) Describe your business in one sentence
We make top technologies for the leading edge in home care.
3) Who is your target audience?
Anyone who own home (although they are particularly expensive, so aimed more towards the upper class household) businessmen, housewives, bachelors, working Mothers, etc.
4) Who are your competitors?
Cleaning companies like molly maid, maid brigade, and merry maids. We would also be encroaching into the handyman's territory.
5) What makes them better/worse than your product/service?
Both the maid industry and the handyman industries have positives and negatives compared to Hand-E bots. They both offer hands on services, and human to human contact; which can both help and hurt them. On one hand there are consumers out there who prefer to deal with human to human contact verse using a robot; this why if something is not done to their liking, they can bring it talk with the worker and let them know their dissatisfaction, and they can improve it. This may also be a big fault in the maid and handyman industries, because the robot is likely to do it right the first time, and be more thorough, chores will be executed with mathematical precision! Also with the other companies you have to pay repeated fees every time you need something done; and with something like a maid service, that could get quite expensive! With Hand-E, it is a one time fee for all your basic household needs.. and if the consumers has an "odds and ends" type of chore they can buy one of the programs load it onto their robot, and that command will be saved there until the owner decides to remove it.
6) Do you currently have an identity?  NA
7) (If your answer to #6 is no, skip this question) What do you like about it and what don’t you like about it? NA
8) How do you want your image to be seen in two years?
I want this company to be seen as the superior provider of house and business care, providing reliable robots and robotic programming.

These following questions might seem silly, but their purpose is to help generate ideas.
9) If your company was an animal, what animal would it be and why?
An Alligator because it is precise, versatile, and effective. Ex: A cheetah, because our skates are fast, dynamic, and exciting.
10) If your company/brand was a person, who would it be and why?
This is a product that could be edorsed by almost any celebrity... they all have large lavish homes; which could benefit from our product, as well as help out image, because people like using the same things celebrities do.
11) If your company/brand was an object, what would it be?
A Basic robotic form
12) If your customer was a cartoon character, who would it be?
Eve from Wall-E because she is very innovative, modern and stylish; as well as representing the furture of robotic technologies.

Collage

The song that I wanted to do was "Home" by Edward Sharpe. The line I chose was "Home, let me come home, home is where Im with you." I decided that I wanted to compare where I live here in Tampa to my home in Minnesota, so I took an image of my dorm room and put in picture of my family and home in Minnesota. most of the work came from skewing the images, getting to picture quality to match, and having shadows that made sense.

Vector Image

The idea I wished to convey here was Posh. I chose to do the shoe at this angle because it makes it seem more dynamic. My color choices stay pretty true to the actual image. I chose this picture because it was taken while I was eating dinner in the Bahamas over the ocean... whats more posh than that?!

Final Logo Design

This is my final design, I think it is crisp and clean. I came up with numerous more complicated versions, but in the end I believe this one is best because it's clean and simple design help to better portray the message of a cleaning entity.

Logo Critiques

Kremer Logo- This is the logo for my parents company, and although it has changed numerous times (seeing as the company first fixed horse buggies 115 years ago) I think this particular logo is very successful. The fonts are simple and crisp. I like the fact that most of the information that is given on the logo is in very mechanic/geometric fonts, but they are softened by the rounded black outline, and the softer red text on the bottom. Also the way the red and black are distributed all around the logo helps to make the entire piece a look of unity. Finally, one of my favorite things about this logo (and is new to it as of last year) is the way that the k and the R drop down and go around the "services" text. This helps to make the whole logo flow, but lets the viewer know what is more important in the name.

University of Tampa
1.This first logo has always thrown me off. I understand the need for the U Tampa logo to be varied from the U Texas logo as well as other UT schools, however, the organic flow of the top of the T mixed with the mechanical look of the bottom of the T as well as the U made this logo seem very discombobulated to me. Had this logo encompassed a little more organic types of lines, I would have enjoyed the logo much more. One thing I do really enjoy is it's simplicity, and the way the contrast between the red and black makes it pop.

2. I love this logo because it depicts the physical beauty of our school, and it depicts elegance. The only problem with it is how detailed Plant Hall is. When shrunk down to a size such as this one, many of the details we are so familiar with become lost.
3. This logo is very successful. It is crisp, clean, and easy to read. I like that the font is simple, yet it varies enough to keep the viewers attention. Also with this one, they kept the color scheme simple, and accurate.
4. Finally, although I think this logo has many good descriptions of our school (the spartan, the minaret, the colors, and even the name of the school) It is almost a little too much for the viewer to take in. One of my favorite thing about this logo is the encompassment of organic and inorganic shapes, as well as the varying line thickness; this, along with all of the symbols of our school, makes this logo very intriguing for the viewer.

A little more about me

So my name is Arianna Ehret, I am a sophomore at UT, and I am a AD and PR major. To be honest, I forgot exactly what we were supposed to include in here, but here is a little about me: I'm from Minnesota, I love art, I just got back from traveling across 8 countries and 4 continents, I was a competitive gymnast for 12 years, and I cant wait to learn more programs other than photoshop!
